Found at the bottom of handbags, under carseats, scattered on surfaces or in pockets, lipbalm (also know as lipsalve) has medical benefits as opposed to cosmetic so can be argued as unisex. Often it comes in a small attractive plastic tube and can be flavoured - I'll com
e to that.
e to that. The first lipbalm ever was made out of earwax. It did the job - adding an oily waxy layer to lips to prevent them drying out and cracking. Luckily, these days we have brands and manufacturers to make nice products for us, so we don't have to do some kind of ear smear (urgh).
Chapstick, Vaseline and Lipsyl all rock (or at least better than ear wax).
Intriguing stands sell lipbalm at checkouts and in pharmacies in strange flavours - lemon, cherry, orange. One day I'd like to buy them all and have some kind of pretty collection. With much the same appeal as sweets or an exciting pick and mix counter, who wouldn't? Unfortunately it's often the boring blue original that lurks on my desk and in my school uniform pockets.

You can get some really snazzy things at Claires Accessories (is this stepping across the line of "unisex")? Lip Smackers is a range from cosmetic company Bonne Bell that includes lip products. Their lipbalm range is simply tastebud-blowing: Cookie Dough, Berry Peach, Cotton Candy, 7Up, Bubble Gum, Pink Lemonade, Raspberry Melon, and more. Is your mouth watering yet? It should be.
I really like lipbalm because of it's flavour and curious air. The whole flavour reason is o
bvious - you'll never be bored and tasteless again! Curious air, because (much like if you are drinking herbal tea) if you are wearing funky lipbalm you will feel very cool and contemporary.
bvious - you'll never be bored and tasteless again! Curious air, because (much like if you are drinking herbal tea) if you are wearing funky lipbalm you will feel very cool and contemporary. And how is this all to bring a smile to your face? As I've mentioned, begin a collection of the different flavours. That way you will have plenty of interesting ones lying in wait for you to pick up and use. I think tubes can vary from about £1-£3.
Undoubtedly it will be necessary to wear your lipbalm. I suggest first of all, you hide them everywhere. Much like if you were revising science and needed to remember lots of facts, simply dot around. Is there one by the computer? On your desk? At work? Handbag, trousers, wallet, purse, favourite mug? Then simply apply lavishly whenever you find one! Built up a kaleidoscopic barrier of flavours on your chops and never be bored again.
Line then up! Take photos of them! Indulge in lipsalve love, and free yourself from the tyranny that is chapped, tastefree lips.

haha, I so many of those scattered around my house, but they're all red and make me look as if I was wearing lipstick. therefore i like the white ones.
Haha
Wow, i neevr thought of having them all over the place, though now that you mention it...
its a good idea!
:p
When I was a teenager, I bought the Bonnie Bell flavored ones. But I found, because of the flavor, I was licking my lips all the time, and they never had a chance to actually keep my lips moist.
Now that I'm old and stodgy, I just buy plain Chapstick in the black and white tube. And without flavor, it keeps my lips moist for hours.
jess. i, too, am a fan of lipbalm, but i have to say that i think you can do better than lipsmackers. i used to use those too, until i realized they're more made for the flavor than for actually keeping your lips soft and pretty.
now, i really love using burt's bees lipbalm. it's made out of beeswax (better than earwax!) and other natural, earth-friendly materials. this is no boring blue lip balm, though. burt's has flavors like peppermint (original) and honey, and even come in tinted colors as a more laid-back version of lipstick (not for franco).
if you are a lip balm aficionado, jess, you should definitely, definitely check out burt's.

I buy them , lose them and then buy new ones....Its a visious cycle. But I can't help myself, the Bonnie Bell ones are my favorite of all time. That takes me back to 5th grade !
Hmm. I don't know - I think I may well be more about the uniqueness and flavour that the whole "caring for your lips" deal. Or maybe it's important to strike a balance.
This is obviously why is it important to have many many kinds.
LOVE lip balm. Mostly I use Carmex but the girls always get LipSmackers in their stockings for Christmas and I steal the ones I like the best.
I remember being a huge fan of Suzy Chapstick... I used to use the stuff when I snow skiied but I've not done that in a few years.
I always get a kick out this - Jake of Two and Half Men explores Lip Gloss
:)
By the way - Have you been to Mr Linky's page (the superior scribbler's blog) lately?
You were 106th. There are well over 210 folks listed there now!
I never liked Chapstick. It was always too rough for my lips. It felt like I was dragging a candle across my lips. My stockings at Christmas and the Easter basket always had Bonnie Bell, but like Chicagolady, I was prone to licking it off because it smelled so good (damn chocolate flavor!!). These days I keep either a blue or green tube of Blistex in my purse (which is always nearby)for frequent applications.
i love lip balm!!!!!! :)
I always have lipbalm with me, and I agree with Katherine I really like burt's bees lipbalm. :}
i love lip balm! i have WAY too many as it is, but am never without. i always have one in my pocket and one in my purse because i feel naked without them! (and it is always when you are without that you need it the most!)
Well, I just put on some lip balm while reading this, because I get a tube at my computer, but I always need chapstick (my lips get so chapped and split often, it's really nasty actually) and so I should really stock up on more and stick them all around like you mentioned! :D

i just came to say hi?!!!!
Only problem is... If the flavour is too good you end up licking it off.
But then... I guess if you do that it's an excuse to put more on? ;)
I use a regular white lip balm, because sometimes the scented ones make me nauseous :p
Lip balm all the way here!
I love cherry chapstick!
Awwww ... lip balm. I remember when I was younger I loved lip balm. Bonnie Bell was my brand of choice and I always liked the pink ones such as cherry or strawberry.
Now that I am older (old enough to be your mom!) a new lipstick brings me joy. If I'm down and I need a little pick-me-up I can go to the store and find a new shade of lipstick and it brings me joy without breaking the bank.
Thanks for helping me to remember my younger years, lipbalm and all!
Nauseous? Impposible. i guess I could relate to the candle/lip dilemma though.
I HAVE to have chapstick stored everywhere in my house, my car, my purse, my office at work...everywhere! I love the stuff, especially the good smellin/tastin kind!
One time a friend surprised me with a new stick of chapstick and I was so excited I cried! Yep, I love it THAT much. Ha!
Thanks for visiting me! love your blog
